Presidential Pet Museum Association Newsletter
June/ July 2004, issue number two Officers: President: Shirley McVicker, NEXT MEETING In case you havent heard, the next meeting is July 17th at 1:00 at the home of Capt. Evan and Lt. Commander Christie Applequist who just purchased a home at 9701 Hill Street. Exit Conn. Ave, north to a right on Beach Street to Stoneybrook, left to the corner house on Hill. MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING A meeting of the Association was held at the home of Mrs. Sarah Gaunt, Arandale Road, Bethesda on June 17th. The Purpose of the meeting was to introduce NEW FOUNDERS, Mr. Gregory Powe and Ms. Gaunt to the group. Present was Shirley McVicker, Pres. Jim Stallings, VP. Claire McLean, Sec, and Mallory Star Acting Treasurer. A formal meeting was waived in order to use the time to discuss with Mr. Powe the content of our organization and its progress during the last year. A general discussion of our prospects with HSUS occurred with Mr. Powe suggesting he research the possibility of our meeting with the LORD Museum and Management consulting group. Mr. Stallings showed the group more Presidential Pet Seal Items he is offering. As an informal meeting, no official minutes were taken. FOUR COLOR BROCHURE Everyone should have the four-color brochure by now. If not please let me know. The first printing of 1000 has gone out to the secretaries of AKC Dog Clubs and a few individuals on my list. Its primary purpose is branding... to let the Dog world, especially the AKC dog world know that there is a group of individuals working towards a National Pet Museum attraction. It is my hope rather than send money, which would be nice also, that they mention it in their newsletter and bring it up at their meetings. Therefore there has been no feed-back as yet, but I expect in subtle ways, it is coming. THE PETIBLES Thank Goodness I have a couple of outlets buying the White House pets or I would give up on the item completely. Rather than try to mom and Pop the Petibles around town, etc., Mary Seeley of www.Whitehousechristmas.com and the FDR library have been buying them and distributing them for us. Marketing and distribution is a whole other ball game and one I am not equipped to do. Without a or a group to help me, like anything else, it collects dust. Like the website, www.presidentialmuseums.com it is part of our inventory. MISCELLANEOUS NOTES This is about the 20th Newsletter I have sent out with the minutes of the meetings and other information. From now on it will only go to paid founders or members of the organization which you can access through the website by using the password which you will be given when it is up and running. This is only the second newsletter for the Association as all others have been for the Website Company or The Foundation. We will try to publish a newsletter every two months to keep all members up on our progress. We also will try to fill it with Pet news and White House trivia as well. Several of our members do not have e-mail. We will mail them a copy, but others will receive it by e-mail. Visitors to our website can join up and read back issues of the Newsletters. Needless to say, we need a Newsletter editor, as I can not continue to do this job so please someone volunteer. Some members e-mails are invalid, so please when you get this in the mail, send me your correct e-mail. The Founders Day open house was not well attended. The time and weather were both working against us, but Shirley McVicker raised $160.00 for the Association doing Canine Good Citizen Testing for those who signed up. |
