Baton Rouge Man
Creating Life-Size
Bronze of Barney

Richard Chashoudina started handling dogs when he was 12, and became one of the most successful handlers on the West Coast. Then he turned to judging dog shows.

In 1976 he won Best in Show at the 100th Anniversary Westminster Dog Show in New York.

Along the way to becoming an expert in judging terrier breeds, he carved out another sideline:
Dog sculptor.

After 30 years working on making bronze figures of champion dogs, he's taken a commission on an ambitious project. He's sculpting a life-size bronze of one of President Bush's dogs, Barney, Scottish terrier.

When Chashoudian's not on the road judging, he spends his days in a bright studio at his house in Baton Rouge's Broadmoor neighborhood working on sculptures.
