Ruby Rouch was an affectionate brown silky collie who belonged to President Calvin Coolidge and his family. It is said that some of the White House staff referred to Ruby as “Foxy” or “Mule ears” but never when Mrs. Coolidge was around. According to writer David Pietrusza, Ruby was “literally left at the door to the White House.”
By the time the Coolidges’ term of office ended, Ruby was one of only three dogs left in the White House, the others all having passed away or been given to friends. It is unknown whether Ruby accompanied her family onward to their retirement, but one hopes that she did!
