For the last twenty-plus years, Director of the Presidential Pet Museum Bill Helman’s daily life has been devoted to dogs. As an urban musher, Bill with his four husky dogs by his side has traversed the mid-Atlantic and beyond, often choosing trails that have historic significance. They’ve traveled the Great Alleghany Passage and the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal Trail; Bill has even taken his dogs to the Nation’s Capital, the same stomping grounds as our beloved presidential pets!
One part of the museum’s mission is to educate people about history in fun ways. As such, we have added The Director’s Corner where from time to time we will share information and stories from some of Bill’s more historically relevant past and future trips. You can read more about Bill and urban mushing, and see some of the trails we plan to feature in the Summer 2018 edition of Susquehanna Life magazine where Bill and the art of urban mushing are featured.
Hello
I’m interested in knowing where you are located? I have a special interest in Presidential pets and would love to bring my children to your museum if it is in a location we can reach.
Appreciate your time!
We are currently searching for a permanent home. Right now, our collection is housed in the northern suburbs of Baltimore. We aren’t really open to the public, but we can make some exceptions by appointment.
